When I was a young boy In the late 60's my father was sationed in Holland at Camp New Amsterdam. I remember very fondly a lot of the experiences of my three year stay. One thing that occured that stood was the Dutch Food. I can obtain recipes for most things I remember. But is my research correct? Is French fry sauce is just strait Mayo? It totally ruined me, I have been unable to eat Catsup ever since! Is there a recipe for the sauce, any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was so excited when I came upon this site. Both my parents are from Holland and I visited there with my mother last year. I love all the Dutch and Indonesian food, but find it hard to get some of the ingrediants required. This site makes it very easy. It is also full of so much information, which my children enjoy checking out.

In 1973, I lived in the town of Voorburg, NL, which is a suburb of Den Haag. I fell deeply in love with the Netherlands and everything about it. I was 11 at the time, and my life has not led in a path which is likely to take me back to the Netherlands any time soon. My brother and I with our wives have visited Holand the past two years. We found a book written by my Grandfather over 100 years ago and had it translated into English. He was the gerneral secretary to the "Nut" society. The book discribes how the "Nut" society provided answers to the problems that brought on the french revolution. Does anyone know if the society still exists and what their mailing address is?

Can anyone help us get a Sinterklaas costume? We advertised in the local paper and were sorely disappointed not to get any reactions, with the many Dutch living here. We would really like to have Sinterklaas visit our two young daughters next year. Very glad to see a sight that is Canadian based (and not too far from home) I am looking for Kiwi Flavoured Hopjes. My father brought some back on his last trip to Holland but I have not been able to find any since, that and the tins they used to come in. There is a Dutch store in Burlington so I am working at getting my husband as addicted to Dutch treats as I am. Next we both have to learn dutch... Hi there,what a great thing to have conntected to this site. I am of Dutch/Polish/Canadian heritage-really when you break in down, I am only one quarter dutch as my Omi was dutch and Opa was Polish. My Omi's maiden name was den Besten. As my mother died when I was a baby, and I have no real contact with my father, my Omi's inluence was very great in my life. She saw to it that my brother and I maintain some of her heritage. It is the only part of my roots that I feel very strongly conected to. My mother's name was Ilse Idczakowski and she immigrated to Canada with my Omi (Anna) and her brother (Rudy) some time in the 50's. I have relatives in Lunteren, Holland, a Carl and Florry den Besten. I lost track of them a few years ago and am desperately trying to connect with them. If anyone reading this recognizes any of these names, please e-mail me. Now that Omi has passed away some years ago, I am trying to hold on to what little dutch heritage I can remember so that I can pass it on to my three year old son. I feel it is so important for him to have an idea about the european side of my family. If anyone can pass on any dutch traditions, memories, stories, it would be greatly appreciated. I am lucky that we have a dutch cafe here in Barrie that sells many of the items I remember my Omi providing us. As well, if anyone has a recipe for rumballs, could they please forward it on. I would love meet and keep in touch with dutch decent people on the internet who find themselves wanting to connect/share their heritage as well. Thankyou, Jen

I came to Canada in March 1955, with the Grote Beer. Originally settled in Montreal and subsequently lived in several places in Quebec and finally in British Columbia. I traveled around the world extensively in export of Papermachine parts etc. and settled in BC, where I am now enjoying my retirement. I did not follow the tradition to marry a Dutch girl but have been married to a French Canadian for the better part of half a century. Although she is not of Dutch origin, she is a very good cook and often prepares Dutch recipes. We are fortunate to have several Dutch stores and delicatessen as well as some Dutch restaurants in our area. Keep up the good work and let us know about your articles and recipes, we will greatly appreciate this, Hans and Rheanne van der Werff.

Hello, I would interested in making contact with Buitenwerfs who live in Ontario. I am researching family history. I did find relatives in Chicago whose grandfather was my great uncle, an Albert Buitenwerf who immigrated to Chicago in the 1920's. Love the website! I only moved to London three months ago, but already miss al my Dutch food. But I am privileged with friends who come over and bring me my supplies. Especially Hagelslag. I think that it is great to keep al our traditoins alive in this way. But I missed a few really traditional recipes in the website though, these are Boerenkool and Hete Bliksem. I think along with Hutspot and Erwtensoep that these are THE dutch winter meals. I will be happy to give them to any one who wants them. Also, are there any dutch gothics living in london, or a any other dutch people who want to get in touch? Let me know.

My Opa who was also Petrus Johannes Trock passed away approx 14 years ago and my Oma who's maiden name was Kloek just past away a couple of years ago. Hi! I enjoyed your site. I love the fact that you are right here in Ontario. I found it while doing some research for my family tree. Maybe you could also help me. Hello! I just wanted to let you know I think this site is fantastisch!!!! I am not Dutch, but my fiance is and I am going to bring him to your store in Chatham when he comes to Canada again. I especially liked the recipes you have on here for traditional Dutch cuisine. I am going to try some of them out on my man when he visits. I was also wondering if there is anyone that is reading this that immigrated to Canada in the last few years in order to work here. My fiance is just finishing his schooling in Utrecht and is looking to move to Canada to begin life with me. I wanted to know if anyone can email me and let me know of any instances or problems that occurred as far as finding employment here. Is it difficult for a foreigner to land a position? My fiance is finishing his studies in Human Resources Management and is not sure if the job prospects here are favorable in that line of work. I would appreciate any imput from anyone reading this.
